The first trailer for ABBA musical sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is out and fans seem angry that Meryl Streeps character Donna may have been killed off.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again returns after a decade from the original smash hit, which grossed over £450m globally.

All of the original cast seem to have returned for the sequel, which shows Streep’s character in flashbacks. The trailer shows the film switching between Donna’s past, where she’s played by Lily James, and the present where daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is pregnant and seeking help and advice from her mother’s two friends Tanya (Christine Baranski) and Rosie (Julie Walters).

Fans however, don’t seem happy and have taken to Twitter concerned about Donna’s death.

“Ok, who do I speak to about cancelling 2018? Meryl Streep has died in Mamma Mia 2. Tell Kim Jong-un to press the button.” Tweeted one fan

“Well the Mamma Mia 2 trailer has me suicidal. where is Meryl, what have they done to Donna, my heart is broken and I shouldn’t feel that way about the sequel to a film that changed my life.” Tweeted another.

The film is written and directed by The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel‘s Ol Parker, and will see ABBA members Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus once again provide music and lyrics for the surefire blockbuster.

Let’s hope fans are not too disappointed with Donna’s character in the sequel when the film releases in UK cinemas on 20 July 2018
