Filmmaker Shree Narayan Singh’s next film ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ starring Shahid Kapoor will be set in Uttarakhand, India. The pre-production of the film has already begun and the director is currently exploring Haridwar, Dehradun and Rishikesh for the locations. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat is also reportedly helping the filmmaker in the location recee.
A source close to the project revealed, “Like his debut film Toilet Ek Prem Katha, his Batti Gul Meter Chalu will also have a socially relevant theme. If it was open defecation in the former, it will be electricity theft in the latter. Both are sensitive and troublesome issues in the respective districts. The Uttrakhand chief minister threw open Uttrakhand’s doors to the director, and his writers Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal got the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Corporation to facilitate the recce they had undertaken in the state.”
Talking about the same Shree Narayan Singh showed his excitement to shoot in Uttarakhand and promised to show these locations beautifully in his film. “I am thrilled to begin work on my film in Uttarakhand. There is a different vibe here, which keeps bringing me back to this beautiful state. Showing a new side to it will be a big challenge, ” he said.
‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ sheds light on a very relevant subject of electricity being pilfered. The film is said to be a commercial entertainer with a strong social message. It will go on floors in January next year.
