Recreating an old song is a new trend in Bollywood. The old melodies are revisited with new singers and musicians and used as promotional tracks and this is being done in every other film these days. Now, yet another much-loved melody of the 1980s is soon going to be recreated.

Ranbir Kapoor on the sets of Sanjay Dutt biopic

The romantic track “Kya Yehi Pyar Hai” from the movie ‘Rocky’ will be incorporated in Rajkumar Hirani’s tentatively titled, ‘Sanju’ which is the biopic of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt. This ultra-romantic track which is still recalled as one of the most romantic melodies of the 1980s has reportedly been used in this biopic because it’s Dutt’s first song and he shares a special bond with it.

While the original was sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar and composed by RD Burman, the new version will be crooned by Armaan Malik in the composition of Amaal Malik. “Yes, I am doing a new version of Kya Yehi Pyar Hai. But what a huge responsibility this is. This R D Burman song is the baap of romantic duets,” Amaal said confirming the news.

“To recreate that kind of composition and to get the voice quality of Kishore Kumarji is so difficult. I am not much into remixes, but I had to do this one because a filmmaker like Rajkumar Hirani asked me to and also because it’s a vintage R D number,” Amaal said adding that he will be duly crediting Burman for the song.

However, the recreated version of the song will not be put in the context it was used in ‘Rocky’. “Kya Yehi Pyar Hai won’t be about romantic love, but the love for life. The female voice has been completely eliminated and will only have singer Armaan Malik crooning about the love for life as Sanjay Dutt (Ranbir in the movie) goes from one crisis to another. The song will play like a theme track throughout the film,” a source quoted to DNA.

The biopic starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal and Jim Sarbh is scheduled to release on March 30, 2018.
