Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Munna Bhai’ series is one of the most loved franchises in Bollywood. Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi’s characters, Munna and Circuit are regarded as iconic characters in Hindi film industry. Both films of the franchise- ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ (2003) and ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ (2006) were immensely loved by audiences, hence the excitement for its third instalment is higher than the sky.
The first film, ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ was based on the medical profession, while the second part was about Mahatma Gandhi’s ideologies of peace and non-violence. While the first film introduced us to the iconic Jaadu ki Jhappi, the second instalment got us acquainted with the iconic and unusual concepts of Gandhigiri which are still etched in everyone’s memories. The third film in the franchise, however, will bring the realistic issue of the society.
‘Munna Bhai 3’ will bring social realistic issue but in the well-known ‘Munna Bhai’ format. Abhijat Joshi who is writing the screenplay for the third part confirmed the news and also revealed that they have cracked an idea which would match up to the magic that the earlier two movies have created among audiences. “The toughest thing is to match up to what we did in ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’. We are looking at something that will match the standards of ‘Lage Raho…’. We have an idea in place. It is something new and different,” Joshi told PTI.
‘Munna Bhai’ series comes among the best films made in India in last five decades. ‘Lage Raho Minna Bhai’ was a rage when it released 11 years back. The makers want to continue that quality and content with the new film, too and this is the reason, despite being a much-demanded sequel, Rajkumar Hirani has taken over a decade to come with the third Munna Bhai film.
Hirani had recently said, “Now I have found a story that is a good as Lage Raho Munna Bhai or maybe even better. I wasn’t doing Munnabhai 3 because I wasn’t finding anything that matches the level. Now, I have found it, it will take some time to write it… Now, while I am shooting Sanjay Dutt biopic, Abhijat is working on the script of Munna Bhai 3. Hopefully, by the time I’m done with the biopic, it’ll be ready and I can jump into it right after that.”
