Filmmaker Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty have joined hands with Reliance Entertainment for a masala entertainer, ‘Simmba’ starring Ranveer Singh. The film was announced on Thursday on Twitter with the first look poster that features Ranveer dressed in the statutory police uniform with bright red sunglasses, handlebar moustache, a silver chain and a wide smile on his face.
Ranveer will be seen playing a notorious inspector, Sangram Bhalerao in this Rohit Shetty directorial. The film is loosely based on Jr NTR-starrer 2015 Telugu hit, ‘Temper’. However, ‘Simmba’ is said to be not exactly a remake. In the film written by Sajid-Farhad, only around 20 per cent of the original story will be retained while the rest will be amended to suit Hindi film audience. The movie is said to be an out-and-out action masala entertainer with amazing action sequences.
The film will be releasing on December 28, 2018. Initially, it was supposed to release on December 21st clashing with Shah Rukh Khan’s dwarf movie but Rohit later decided to avert the clash. “Rohit has never been someone who likes his films to clash with others as he believes they cut into the box-office business. Also, he knows SRK well and the two had a word with each other about it. Both are big films in their own way, hence Rohit, who is co-producing the film with Reliance Entertainment, decided to postpone Temper remake by a week,” a website reported quoting a source.
Rohit Shetty, Karan Johar and Ranveer Singh wanted to collaborate on a feature film for a long time. Earlier they were to make ‘Ram Lakhan’ remake but that didn’t work out for some reasons. “No, the Ram Lakhan remake is not happening. Two stars don’t want to work together, they just want to promote each other’s films. This young lot, they will tweet for each other, but they will not work with each other,” Shetty had told the media regarding the Ram Lakhan remake a few months ago.
Ranveer is known for his sempiternal energy while Rohit is one of the biggest commercial directors. They had collaborated for the Ching’s Secret ad campaign in 2016 and it was a huge hit. Hence, the return of this combo in a massy film has a huge expectations from movie goers. Let’s hope the year 2018 ends with a bang in the form of ‘Simmba’!
