Putham Pudhu Kaalai is an original movie by Amazon Prime. There are five interesting Tamil stories, where each are short films.
There are five Tamil directors who are the most celebrated in Tamil cinema. Sudha Kongara, Gautham Menon, Suhasini Mani Ratman, Rajiv Menon, and Karthik Subbaraj have created Amazon Prime Video’s first Indian anthology film
The films are different as each story is based around love, new beginnings, second chances, and a glimmer of hope, but the main difference is that it has been filmed during the pandemic, so that interest immediately draws you in.
It should be interesting to see how they have filmed this during the pandemic, the films should be relatable to many viewers as the stories show what each person experiences during the 21 days of lockdown.
In the trailer you can see the struggles that the characters face as soon as lockdown is announced, along with relationships being rekindled and new beginnings for some.
It offers people to go on this lockdown journey and has potential to form a connection with these ordinary people who are facing a pandemic and in lockdown for 21 days. It is good that there is a variety of stories as it shows different perspectives and scenarios of each person is going through.
The anthology includes five short films:
- Ilamai Idho Idho directed by Sudha Kongara (Soorarai Pottru) starring
Jayaram (Uttama Villain), Kalidas Jayaram (Poomaram), Urvashi
(Soorarai Pottru), and Kalyani Priyadarshan (Hero).
- Avarum Naanum/Avalum Naanum, directed by Gautham Vasudev
Menon (Yennai Arindhaal) starring M.S. Bhaskar (Sivaji: The Boss) and
Ritu Varma (Pelli Choopulu).
- Coffee, Anyone? directed by and starring Suhasini Mani Ratnam
(Sindhu Bhairavi), Anu Hasan (Indira)) and Shruti Haasan (Treadstone)
- Reunion directed by Rajiv Menon (Kandukondain Kandukondain) starring,
Andrea (Vada Chennai), Leela Samson (OK Kanmani) and Sikkhil
- Miracle directed by Karthik Subbaraj (Petta) featuring Bobby Simha
(Petta) and Muthu Kumar (Pattas) .
The anthology is a first for Amazon Prime Video
Putham Pudhu Kaalai was shot in compliance with rules and regulations set by the Film Employees’ Federation of South India (FEFSI) for filming during the ‘Unlock’ phase.
Aparna Purohit, Head of India Originals, Amazon Prime Video said “Putham Pudhu Kaalai was born with the intent of talking about hope, love and new beginnings and the fact that art finds expression in the most challenging times,”,
Putham Pudhu Kaalai will release 16 October in over 200 countries.
