Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmavati’ will experience the biggest release an Indian film has ever witnessed worldwide. Viacom 18 Movies which has produced this historical drama starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, has collaborated with Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures to provide it with the biggest global release.

‘Padmavati’ will be released in 150 countries through the Hollywood studio making it the biggest ever overseas release for a Hindi film. Ajit Andhare, COO, Viacom Motion Pictures, said: “Paramount and Viacom have a long-standing relationship. This story is universal. Historical films have the power to mesmerise people, whether or not the audience is familiar with the culture. This is also the reason behind the mammoth success of Game Of Thrones [American series]. Also, Deepika Padukone’s global appeal, given that she starred in XXX: Return Of Xander Cage, is another bonus.”

Ajit revealed that the film “will release in places that have a sizable Indian population, including the UK, US, Malaysia, Singapore, Fiji and the Middle East” and also added that they are planning to release it in China as well once “the film garners attention through positive word-of-mouth and social media.”

Not only in international markets, ‘Padmavati’ will see the biggest ever release in India as well. The makers are eyeing a release in 4,500 screens at the domestic market which is more than even the biggest motion picture releases, ‘Dangal’ and ‘Baahubali 2’. While Aamir Khan’s biopic drama ‘Dangal’ was released in 4250 screens, SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘Baahubali 2’ witnessed the domestic release in 3950 screens this year.

With ‘Padmavati’ releasing in bigger and grander scale in both India and overseas, one can expect a storm at the box office this December 1.
