When ‘Happy Bhaag Jayegi’ released last August, no one had imagined that it would become such a huge hit. The small budgeted movie collected almost 29 crores at the box office and became a sleeper hit of the year. Now the makers of the romantic comedy are all set to move the story forward with a sequel, titled ‘Happy Bhaag Jayegi Returns’.

The sequel will also be directed by the first part Helmer Mudassar Aziz and produced by Anand L Rai. However, the casting for part two has got bigger. Sonakshi Sinha who was last seen in ‘Noor’, has been roped in to play the parallel lead alongside Diana Penty who played Happy in the first installment. Punjabi singer and actor, Jassi Gill have also joined the team. Other cast members like Jimmy Shergill, Abhay Deol, Ali Fazal and Piyush Mishra also will be retained in the second part.

Sonakshi who is elated to be a part of the ‘Happy Bhaag Jayegi’ sequel said,  “I’m thrilled to be on board of this really positive, vibrant and most importantly happy film unit. I loved the first part and I hope this one is bigger and better in every way. Can’t wait to start shooting!”

“HBJ was a special film for me, so being part of HBJ Returns is like going back to the family. HBJ was a fun, roller-coaster of a ride and I’m sure this one is going to be as much of a riot. I am looking forward to the shoot,” Diana said in the statement.

‘Happy Bhaag Jayegi’ which narrated the story of a girl named Happy, was based in Pakistan while the sequel is supposed to be based in China. ‘Happy Bhaag Jayegi Returns’ is expected to have more humor and fun compared to the 2016 drama.

“Happy Bhaag Jayegi was a cross-border comedy of errors featuring humorous characters and now we are happy to announce the sequel that has Diana passing on the happy-ness quotient to Sonakshi. Excited to have her on board,” producer Anand L Rai said in a statement announcing the sequel.
