“I want to work with Sonam. Spread the word. But it should be a script that suits both of us,” Anil Kapoor had said back in 2012 when he was asked about his desire to work with his daughter, Sonam Kapoor. “It’s about the script. There has to be something interesting,” Sonam had also revealed talking about the idea of working together.
Now, the time has finally come. They have eventually found a right script they were waiting for as Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor are all set to share screen space together in a movie to be helmed by the debutant director Shelly Chopra. The film is reportedly titled ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ which is named after the very popular track from ‘1942 — A Love Story’ starring Anil, Jackie Shroff and Manisha Koirala.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra who is producing this film along with Rajkumar Hirani confirmed this movie at the opening ceremony of Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival on Thursday night. “That’s a big thing. I am very excited about that. Anil Kapoor coming together with us to make ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’, is just incredible. Anil and Sonam are both there in the film. I am really looking forward to it,” Chopra said.
Talking about his first collaboration with daughter, Anil said: “It’s the script, somewhere it resonated with both of us. Vinod with whom I have stayed in touch, has come to me with all his scripts, from Mission Kashmir to the present one, and screens the films for me well before the release. he spoke to me about this film. Raju approached Sonam when she was shooting with him recently.”
“She (Sonam) is spontaneous, instinctive and very modern in her approach to work. That’s why there is a freshness in her work, it’s very today and connects with the audience who no longer want to see actors on screen but something real and natural,” Sonam added raving about his daughter.
Anil has already worked with Chopra in his two directorials, ‘1942: A Love Story’ (1994) and ‘Parinda’ (1989) while Sonam recently worked in his production film, Sanjay Dutt biopic. Although no details have been disclosed about this film, it’s said to be a new-age love story. The movie is expected to go on floors early next year after both Sonam and Anil complete their commitments.
On the work front, Anil is currently shooting for Atul Manjrekar’s musical-drama, ‘Fanney Khan’ while Sonam, after completing Sanjay Dutt biopic and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Padman’, is currently busy with her own production film, ‘Veerey Do Wedding’.
