The makers of ‘2.0’ recently announced that their much-anticipated sci-fi movie will now be releasing on April 27th, 2018. They announced the new release date after postponing it several times due to the heavy CG work involved in the film. While this news has made fans happy, it hasn’t gone down well with a section of members of the Telugu film fraternity.
Tollywood producers are apparently unhappy over the sudden postponement of ‘2.0’ as it would engender clash with other major regional releases. With the release on 27th April, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer high-budget movie will now clash with Mahesh Babu starrer ‘Bharath Ane Nenu’ and Allu Arjun’s ‘Naa Peru Surya’. Since the makers of these two movies had occupied this release date much before, the sudden entry of ‘2.0’ has left its producers red-faced.
Bunny Vas and DVV Danayya who are producing Allu Arjun and Mahesh Babu’s films respectively have expressed their displeasure over ‘2.0’ new release date. The producers have also taken up the issue with the producers’ council and exhibitors’ association in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
“We always welcome regional films in our state. But, Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0’ has announced a lot of release dates creating needless confusion among our peers. DVV Danayya and I have mutually decided to take up this issue with the producers’ council, and exhibitors association of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana ‘2.0’ will affect our plans,” producer Bunny Vas said.
DVV Entertainments, the production house behind Mahesh Babu’s film, said: “Tollywood has always respected and embraced cinema of other languages. But a bigger project like 2.0 changing its release dates has caused confusion among producers. All the Telugu movie producers whose films are releasing in the months of April and May are in discussion to avoid any competition among ourselves. However, this sudden announcement by the 2.0 team to release it in the month of April has created further confusion. At this juncture, we request the trade bodies to take a conscious call and arrive at an amicable solution.”
The April 2018 release announcement of ‘2.0’ has come as a shock to the makers of ‘Bharath Ane Nenu’ and ‘Naa Peru Surya’. Since ‘2.0’ is the costliest film and has an unbelievable craze among moviegoers, the producers of other two films fear that it will affect their film spelling huge losses for them.
PS: According to sources, Mahesh Babu’s ‘Bharath Ane Nenu’ is already looking at an alternate date while Allu Arjun’s ‘Naa Peru Surya’ is also likely to make changes in its release date citing pending of the shoot.
