Drumrolls… The ‘Veeres’ are here in style & grandeur. After much anticipation, the trailer of Veere Di Wedding (VDW) has released so get set to celebrate childhood friendships, everlasting bonds & soulmates for a lifetime!
Initially, when I saw the poster, I thought it would be a family-friendly film. However, as soon we start the trailer – we are welcomed by full-on gaalis (swearing) and colloquial language… But you know what? it’s truly kick-ass!
The film seems to narrate a story about four childhood friends (played by Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Shikha Talsania and Swara Bhasker) and how they deal with their trials and tribulations in life.
As the mother of Sonam Kapoor in the film says:
“One eloped from home to get hitched (Shikha), one is on the verge of getting divorced (Swara) and the other has cancelled her own wedding (Kareena).”
Within the two-minute and 49-second duration of the trailer, we catch a glimpse of each character and what their issue in life is.
From start to finish, there are so many hilarious moments that one simply has to re-watch the trailer again to acknowledge and enjoy.
Shashanka Ghosh’s last film Khoobsurat (which also starred Sonam) had its deal of hilarious yet quirky moments, his latest film VDW increases the idiosyncratic and laugh-out-loud quotients.
The non-Parivaarik, uncensored and tongue-in-cheek outlook makes the movie seem very fresh.
Furthermore, it is the first Bollywood buddy film which has an all-female star cast, yet the movie itself seems to have a universal and unisex appeal.
What I particularly like, is the fact that the friends address each other as ‘Veere’ (meaning ‘brother’) – despite them being women.
I feel that this addresses gender equality in such a subtle way, which is thought-provoking yet entertaining. It makes sense why the film’s tagline is “I’m Not A Chick Flick”!
Undoubtedly, this is one SHAADI that should not be missed on 1st June 2018!
