Kedarnath Release Controversy: Director and producer fight over Shah Rukh Khan
By RAHUL RAUT
The war between the director Abhishek Kapoor and the producer Prerna Arora regarding the release date of ‘Kedarnath’ is getting bitter day by day. The director wants to release the film on the same day as Shah Rukh Khan’s movie (Christmas 2018) while the producer is in no mood to clash her movie with a superstar like Shah Rukh Khan.
Prerna had recently said, “We are thinking to move the release date. We might not compete with Shah Rukh sir. We are still talking to Abhishek Kapoor (the director). We have to figure out which date is suitable for us. Once we get that, we will be able to reply.” After few days of making this statement to media, Prerna was spotted at the resistance of Shah Rukh. The long meeting was to sort out the release date of their respective films instead of clashing at the box office, the sources had revealed.
However, the fall-out between Abhishek and Prerna got an ugly turn when the director recently defended the release date again saying that he and his producer are on the same page, which is not actually true. “This is so pointless, and senseless. We announced the release date of ‘Kedarnath’ long ago. We didn’t jump into it just because I wanted to compete with Mr Shah Rukh Khan’s film. Our release date, December 21, was decided months ago. And my producers are very much on the same page as me,” he said to an Indian daily.
Abhishek and Prerna already had a big face-off after the director announced the release date of ‘Kedarnath’ on Twitter when she was negotiating with Shah Rukh for a forthcoming film under her banner. And now after Kapoor’s recent long drawn-out quotes, we heard, their fights have turned even worse and they are not even on talking terms. According to a source close to KriArj Entertainment (Arora’s production house), Arora is very upset with the way Abhishek is speaking out of turn about the release date issue.
Meanwhile, there is a buzz in Bollywood trade that ‘Kedarnath’ which stars Sushant Singh Rajput along with the debutant Sara Ali Khan, might now release on December 7, 2018, two weeks prior to the scheduled date. It’s not yet confirmed but if it turns out to be true, the film will be clashing with Ajay Devgn’s ‘Total Dhamaal’ and Arjun Kapoor’s ‘Namaste England’.
