The real reason why Honey Trehan was kicked out of Deepika Padukone-Irrfan Khan’s movie
By RAHUL RAUT
One of the top casting directors of Bollywood, Honey Trehan was all set to make his directorial debut under the banner of Vishal Bhardwaj whom he knows for a very long time and has finalised the cast of almost all of Bhardwaj’s projects including ‘Maqbool’, ‘Omkara’, ‘Kaminey’ and ‘Talvar’. Big Bollywood actors Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan had also come on board and the film was set to kick off its shooting in February. But…
But few days ago when the news surfaced that Trehan is no more helming this film and the producer Vishal Bhardwaj will be taking over as director now, it shocked many in the business, especially those who were close to Trehan as he has been kicked out of it just months before the film was finally going to roll. The next day Bhardwaj, Trehan and Prernna Arora (of KriArj Entertainment) issued a statement clarifying why Trehan was replaced as a director.
“Owing to our differences in creative understanding, we have mutually and amicably decided” that the film will now be made as per the artistic vision of Bhardwaj, they said in that statement. However, if our sources are to be believed, this is far from the truth. The parting of their ways was not due to mutual consent as they claim.
“The real matter is that Vishal Bhardwaj’s next directorial wasn’t taking off after his last release (Rangoon) badly flopped at the box office even after names like Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan being attached to it. He was struggling big time to land the right actors for the film. He felt that his associate Trehan’s film would be a far better thing for him and his dying career and jumped on the opportunity to direct it himself,” the source revealed.
“Trehan had picked up a really hard-hitting story and worked endlessly to make it a great script. Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone agreed to be a part of it because the script is bang-up,” the source further added.
Trehan has now been told that he will be given a chance in the next film which will also be jointly produced by Bhardwaj and Prernna Arora. It is yet unclear which film he will be allowed to make next but if our sources are to believed, Trehan is likely to move out of their offer after all this fiasco.
