Biggest Bollywood versus Hollywood clash scheduled for April 2018
The makers of ‘2.0’ have finally revealed the new release date of the much-anticipated sci-fi movie. The Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson starrer movie will now hit theatres on April 27, 2018. Coincidentally, the new release date of ‘2.0’ is same as this year’s ‘Baahubali 2’.
‘Baahubali 2’ was released on 28th April this year and became the biggest blockbuster in the history of Indian film industry. The SS Rajamouli directorial made over 1000 crore in India and 1700 crore INR worldwide. With the same release date of ‘2.0’ which is the most awaited film of 2018, trade is expecting that the film might recreate the history at the box office next year.
However, the bad news is that ‘2.0’ will not be enjoying the free run like ‘Baahubali 2’. Interestingly, Hollywood’s much-anticipated mega-starrer ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is also scheduled to release the same day in India. Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next outing that brings together some of the biggest superheroes like Ironman, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Thor, Black Panther among others will clash with the biggest Indian production in April 2018.
The clash between ‘2.0’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is being seen as beneficial to none. The ‘Avengers’ franchise has a good fan-following in India and its previous instalments have performed very well at ticket windows. On the other side, ‘2.0’ is a sequel to ‘Enthiran’ (Robot,), one of the biggest hits of the time and has tremendous excitement among every age of audiences. With the clash, the later is said to witness a little slump in the business.
Since ‘2.0’ has been made on the budget of whopping 450 crore INR (highest for an Indian film), it would be quite unbearable to face any big clash for Lyca Production, the production house behind this costliest 3D Indian film. Although this is not yet confirmed, we have learnt that Lyca Production is planning to talk to Disney India which is distributing ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ in India to discuss their release dates.
Will both film clash at the box office or ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ be postponed to clear the window for ‘2.0’ is something we will have to wait and watch for.
