Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar begin the shooting for Dhadak today

Karan Johar’s next production ‘Dhadak’ which marks the starry debut of veteran Bollywood actress Sri Devi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother Ishaan Khattar has gone on floors today. The shooting for the film which is a remake of Marathi blockbuster movie, ‘Sairat’ began today in Jaipur, India.

Karan Johar to make Janhvi and Ishaan's debut grander

To encourage their daughter who is facing the camera for the first time today, Janhvi’s parents Sridevi and filmmaker Boney Kapoor have already flown down to the location while Ishaan’s mother, actress Neelima Azim, is also expected to be present on the set. The city-bred leads have reportedly been working for months on their dialect and dancing skills to get into the skin of their characters and are now ready to pull it off.

“It won’t be a long shoot; we are wrapping up by March for a July release next year, but the prep for the film had started in May. When you take up the responsibility to adapt a film like Sairat by putting it in a different region, you want to be well-prepared and not be complacent about prep. It is the most crucial part of all my films. We have tried to be as authentic as possible with Janhvi and Ishaan’s characters,” the director Shashank Khaitan said to a daily.

The filmmaker who has helmed films such as ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya’ and ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya’ in past also said that adapting ‘Sairat’ according to his style of filmmaking was a challenge. However, the director clarified that ‘Dhadak’ will not be the same as the original. “The basic premise is of differences in caste, honour killing and what it means to survive in that world and I feel that is the conflict that is alive all across India, you will hear stories like that. So in that sense, the basic premise (of Dhadak and Sairat) is same. But there are variations,” he recently revealed.

‘Dhadak’ was officially announced two weeks ago releasing the looks of Janhvi and Ishaan and it took the internet by storm. The two have become stars even before their first film rolls and they are anticipated as among the most promising new faces in Hindi film industry.

‘Dhadak’ which will be shot across Rajasthan is produced by Dharma Productions and Zee Studios. Scheduled to release on 6th July 2018, the film has Ajay-Atul’s music, Vishnu Rao’s cinematography and Monisha R Baldawa’s editing.
