Filmmaker Priyadarshan who has given us films like ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Garam Masala’, ‘Hulchul’, ‘Bhool Bhoolaiya’, Hungama’ etc in past, is all set to return with his next Hindi movie after the hiatus of four years. Although his last release ‘Rangrezz’ starring Jackky Bhagnani and Priya Anand didn’t perform well, the director hopes to play his second innings in Bollywood carefully.
Priyadarshan’s next film will a comedy starring Abhishek Bachchan. “Yes, Abhishek is on board. We have been working on the script and will give him a reading this week and will go ahead once he approves of the final script. I’m hoping to start by January,” the director confirmed the news to Mumbai Mirror.
Talking about casting Abhishek in this comedy-drama, tentatively titled ‘Bachchan Singh’, the director revealed, “I was looking for someone who is as good as Akshay Kumar when it comes to humour. Abhishek is a brilliant actor. He has got his sense of humour from his father (Amitabh Bachchan). I believe he will do total justice to my film. He was always my first choice.”
This film is said to be a fantasy fiction film, something along the lines of ‘Mr India’ and ‘The Mask’. Abhishek reportedly plays a character who gets supernatural powers. We have learnt that he has the power of clapping to get what he wants but he realizes this only later which brings humour, confusion and laughter into the film. If sources are to be believed, Abhishek will be seen in double character in this film. While in the first half he will essay a corrupt police officer, he turns saviour after the interval.
Written by Rumi Jaffrey and produced by Rajat Rawail, the film is expected to release in mid+2018.
