Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan will be honoured with the “Indian Film Personality of the Year Award” at this year’s International Film Festival of India. The 44th edition of India’s biggest and Asia’s oldest film festival will honour the actor for his outstanding contribution to the Indian film industry.
With this, Bachchan has become the fifth celebrity to be conferred with this award. Introduced by the Information & Broadcasting Ministry of India in 2013, this award commemorates the 100 years of Indian cinema and honours a legendary film artist. Veteran film personalities like Waheeda Rehman (2013), Rajnikanth (2014), Ilaiyaraaja (2015) and S.P Balasubrahmanyam (2016) have been the recipients of this glorious award in the previous editions of IFFI.
This year’s International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to kick off in the beach state of Goa on 20th November and will continue till 28th November. Shah Rukh Khan will inaugurate the festival and make the official welcome address to all the delegates from across the globe.
Meanwhile, IFFI has been surrounded by controversies after Information & Broadcasting Ministry removed Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s Malayalam movie ‘S Durga’ and Ravi Jadhav’s Marathi film ‘Nude’ from the final selection. Following this, filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh has resigned as head of the jury of IFFI along with members, Apurva Asrani and Gyan Correa.
